Project description
At the end of 2019, TORKA GmbH approached me and wanted a new motif for their 2021 school bag collection. If TORKA doesn’t mean anything to you: this is the company behind the well-known name McNeill, one of the well-known manufacturers of high-quality school bags and school accessories.
The requirements were quite clear and did not need to be discussed at length. It should be a dolphin, with the colors pink, purple or turquoise. Of course as a vector graphic, as this motif should be used everywhere. After we had clarified the little things, I started with the first sketches and ideas in Photoshop. Since dolphins live in groups, it wasn’t right to create just one dolphin. So there were two in each sketch (I guess that’s called artistic freedom?). The customer liked all of the sketches and agreed on the most appealing one. I then refined and colored this in Photoshop as a normal illustration. The first coloring in turquoise (obvious), and with the other two variants I took some freedom again and actually used all the specified colors in one motif. The result was harmonious and the customer then decided on one of the colorful variants. In the last step I vectorized and colored the illustration in Adobe Illustrator. The finished vector graphic can now be admired on various school bags, pencil cases, etc.? You can find the sketches and color variants below.
