Cover illustration
Project description
I was also able to create a new cover illustration for the second volume of Animorphs, Katherine Applegate’s bestselling series that has sold millions of copies worldwide.
This time the volume is adorned with a cat in front of a full moon. The basic color tone of the cover should be in the purple / blue direction, as each volume should differ in color from the others, not just because of the animals. As with Volume 1, I first created rough thumbnails/previews in order to determine the basic image structure, the background color and the position of the cat with the publisher. Once we had agreed on one thing (elements of the individual thumbnails can of course be combined, such as the position of the cat here with a different background color), I created the original illustration in the correct size, print resolution and bleed, and re-illustrated it (including the thumbnail taken as a template) and provided with more and more details. In the end, the publisher received the illustration ready for printing.
Here, too, the cat and the children were given a partial gloss varnish (yes, I’m a fan of it because it makes the colors shine beautifully).
The illustration was created in Adobe Photoshop with my XP Pen Artist 24 Pro.
About the book:
Rachel is still reeling from the news that Earth is being secretly attacked by parasitic aliens called the Yirks. And of all people, she and her friends – five children who stumbled upon a crashed spaceship and now have the power to transform into any animal they touch – are the planet’s only defense. But Rachel has always been a go-getter. When it’s suggested that they infiltrate the home of her deputy headmaster, who also happens to be a human host of the Yirks, she volunteers. What she finds inside is more than she can handle… Katherine Applegate is one of the most popular and successful science fiction and fantasy authors in the USA. The second volume of this update of the classic and endlessly exciting science fiction series Animorphs was released in March 2022!
Nobody is allowed to know who we are:
At night all cats are gray.
Have you ever met an alien who only exists as a hologram? Of course not – completely impossible! Well, maybe you should ask Rachel…
Rachel we won’t tell you her last name. She doesn’t give any names at all, at most fake ones. She won’t tell you the name of her place of residence either. But all cities are in mortal danger anyway.
By the way: also the one where you live.
Nobody is safe anymore, nobody.
So ask Rachel – if you even recognize her.
Because sometimes Rachel is a cat.
